Dear Miss M,

A few thoughts:
A lovely heartfelt tribute to Carmen Nordelo Tejera, Mother of Gerardo. also recognizing the timeless nobility of the women and mothers who bravely bear the sacrifices alongside their revolutionary warrior loved ones; they, themselves, partners to the revolutionary cause.
The translation you have offered of Gerardo's poem is very good and does not deviate from the original in any way, never mind the rhyme, the content is pure.
We imagine the horrific pain that our brother is entrapped to endure at such a time as this and once again wonder, "How can the justice system of the US be so cruel and shameless?"
I can't help thinking of a particular local "gusano" who left both his mother and father to suffer their deaths alone, back home in Cuba. He, knowing they may have suffered beyond the norm due the circumstances imposed by the embargo that often makes medicines and adequate supplies scarce.
I know Gerardo would have been by his mother's side to offer any comfort possible, except that he is not allowed. Really a very sad and inhumane punishment. Our heart is with Gerardo.
I would also like to mention the particularly beautiful photograph of the red roses. Roses in arrangement are not usually well captured in photograph. This photo is breathtaking and bold in its loveliness. I will print a copy, like I do of almost all your postings, this one in color.

Machetera:

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your post about Gerardo and his mother. What brave, revolutionary people they are. The injustice of the US keeping Gerardo and his wife apart all these years and now to this injury, the insult of Gerardo not being able to be at his mother's bedside. Your post is a beautiful tribute that I am certain Gerardo will treasure.

As it is for us in Empire USA, so it is in Honduras.

For the upper half of society has all the wealth, the 50% with the ability to "achieve," and they hold all the power.

So we of the lower half can have but one option, to organize or be enslaved.

conscious or not, rice's self-identification as the disney character "goofy" will be read by latin americans in the ariel dorfman vein, as a message of happy imperialism:

"...how Zelaya was heading to become a Chavez style dictator by means of using the State mechanisms to kill democracy." You mean the ballot where ordinary Hondurans could VOTE on whether or not the Honduran constitution could be re-written to allow someone to put their name on another ballot where Hondurans would VOTE on it again? Yeah, that's a recipe for perpetual power, all right. Power of the people.

As far as mentions of what you call Zelaya's puppet-like behavior, there are plenty of those to be found in the corporate media. Have you also written to the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall St. Journal, etc., to ask why they have not mentioned Otto Reich's role in the Honduran coup? Why does Machetera have to do all the work?

Good job in trying to peel the onion. Sure, you pointed out some actors, but you were imprecise in their roles. You completely disregarded all the other aspects of Zelaya's ultra-corrupt government. You did not even mention the purpose of his illegal referendum, with the ultimate goal of rewriting the Constitution according to his interests.

Please mention how Zelaya has followed every order of Hugo Chavez, almost like a puppet. Furthermore, you should report on how Zelaya was heading to become a Chavez style dictator by means of using the State mechanisms to kill democracy. Next time you should also point out how the recipe for perpetual power provided by Chavez has worked for Evo in Bolivia, Correa in Ecuador, and how it's getting materialized in Nicaragua with Ortega. It is also luring others such as Lugo in Paraguay and Fernandez in Argentina. Not to mention Arias in Costa Rica who is already proposing rewriting the Constitution.
You are missing the big picture: how the club of Latin American presidents in power has shifted "left" (that sort of profitable fake left fueled by petrodollars and drug-trafficking dollars).

The succession in power in Honduras was more than an intent of a multinational to take control of Hondutel (ja,ja). It was about preventing Chavez to add another piece in the puzzle for his Hemispherical domination. I am not surprised that Otto Reich was involved, however the motives were the ones I just laid out. I am sure it is fun for him to pick on Chimirri and send him and others to prison, but the truth is that he is against the remnants of communism, pseudo-communism, and Chavista socialism.

When a handful of nations attack Iran for its supposed nuclear weapons - US talks about the International Community condemning Iran. When 183 nations condemn US for its 47 years of war against Cuba The US finds the UN irrelevant.
Not even the US puppet regime in Colombia supports the blockade.
